In Process:  this wedding band is comprised of Damascus steel and gold.  The steel was cut from the hand-forged bar pictured beneath the ring -it is a combination of alloys folded together like pastry dough that results in interesting patterns and textures.  The pattern in the steel must be just right before moving on to the next step in the process.  You can see a hint of the pattern on the outside of the ring not and it will become more pronounced as I continue to etch it.  The bar gives a sense of the potential!  Tomorrow I will remount the ring in my lathe and shape the steel to its final dimensions.  Once that is done, I’ll work the gold up around the edges and created a hammered edge.
